Building a dedicated team for CarExpert New Zealand

Welcoming Matthew Hansen and Dave Kavermann to our editorial team at CarExpert New Zealand.

January 16, 2026

Welcome to Matthew Hansen and Dave Kavermann — our two newest team members to join CarExpert New Zealand, which is launching next month.

This marks the first step in building a dedicated New Zealand team to deliver trusted, independent, new-car coverage for Kiwi drivers. Matthew and Dave both join the on-the-ground editorial operation, bringing with them extensive local motoring and editorial experience.

CarExpert’s CEO, Damon Rielly said, “These appointments set the tone for the kind of leading automotive journalism that CarExpert New Zealand will stand for — local knowledge, editorial independence, and a genuine commitment to helping people buy the right car, without the run-around.”

Editor, Matthew Hansen will lead CarExpert New Zealand’s editorial direction, ensuring locally relevant, in-depth new-car coverage for Kiwi audiences across written, video and digital platforms.

Matthew’s background includes co-founding motorsport outlet Velocity News, contributing as a specialist journalist for NZ Autocar Magazine and Driven at the New Zealand Herald, and most recently serving as Editor of Motoring at Stuff.co.nz.

Dave Kavermann joins the team as a Motoring Journalist. Exposed to the motoring world from a young age, Dave worked in new car sales fresh out of school, before going on to co-found a New Zealand Motorsport Annual with his father. He also became an accredited Motorsport New Zealand and V8 Supercar photographer, leading to work as a Motoring Journalist for The New Zealand Herald.

Both will be focused on providing clear, practical advice across every stage of the new-car buying journey through high-quality new-car reviews, comparisons and buying guidance tailored specifically for the local market.
